THE WINTER’S TALE
A magical Christmas promenade
5th – 22nd December 2011
From the creative team that created this summer’s site-specific sellout smash hit Othello (Time Out Critic’s Choice – Suba Das’ stripped down take on Shakespeare’s tragedy is a bold, brilliant achievement – and nominated for four Off West-End Awards including Best Director) comes an extraordinary reimagining of Shakespeare’s tale of jealousy, devastation and miraculous redemption as the ultimate family Christmas show.
Working with the support of The Old Vic Tunnels, one of London’s leading spaces for site specific and experimental theatre, THE WINTER’S TALE is a promenade across the sprawling, hidden forest of the Camley St Natural Park, right next door to Kings Cross St Pancras and running along Regent’s Canal.
Audiences will be led from a reception at Leontes’ country estate; to the public circus of Hermione’s trial; and then to the bonfires of Bohemia, where a rowdy gypsy festival will be choreographed by Lucy Cullingford, currently associate choreographer on the RSC’s West End triumph, “Matilda”. The journey concludes with a breathtaking finale, performed over the reserve’s lake.
Condensed to just one hour of text and with mulled wine, fires and covered performance spaces to keep audiences cosy throughout, this will be a beautiful, high quality experience for both seasoned theatre-goers and audiences new to Shakespeare.
